Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana or DDU-GKY is an Employment Scheme launched by Government of India. This scheme launched by central union minister Mr. Nitin Gadkari and Mr. Venkaiah Naidu on 25 September on the occasion of the 98th birth anniversary of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya. DDU-GKY is started with the vision to “Transform rural poor youth into an economically independent and globally relevant workforce”. Its main aim is to target youth, in between the age group of 15–35 years. This DDU-GKY scheme is a part of the National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM). This scheme is tasked with the dual objectives of adding diversity to the incomes of rural poor families and caters to the career aspirations of the youth of rural areas. A corpus of Rs 1,500 crore and is aimed at enhancing the employability of rural youth. Under this programme, disbursements would be made through a digital voucher directly into the student’s bank account as part of the government’s skill development initiative.
